Postmodernism and Enchanting the Mundane

Saw by Claes Oldenburg

Postmodernism is one of my favorite schools of thought in art, philosophy, and literature. Postmodernism is concerned with questioning master narratives, allowing the viewer some say so in determining meaning, and breaking down distinctions between 'high' and 'low' art. Definitely a bit subversive by nature, but in a 'breaking down barriers,' more inclusive kind of way. :-)  Artists of this school of thought had a way of enchanting the mundane.

Please enjoy some lovely images and quotes from postmodern sculptor, Claes Oldenburg.
I am for an art that takes its form from the lines of life itself, that twists and extends and accumulates and spits and drips, and is heavy and coarse and blunt and sweet and stupid as life itself.

I am for an art that is political-erotical-mystical, that does something other than sit on its ass at a museum.

Below is my own video project made while experimenting with enchanting the mundane. It's called Consumed. Please enjoy.
